Best Friend

People always says that you need at least one best friend in your life. They will help you thru ups and downs and to share our feeling of joy and burden with each other.
Now, the problem is how do we find best friend?how do we know that this person is our best friend?what does it takes to be a best friend?Do best friend need to haf similar interests with us to become our best friend? These questions somehow very similar to the questions dat people usually asks when they are looking for a soulmate or u can say the other half.....true???
Sometimes I think about people who have different interests. Can they be best friend? For example one person like western movies/songs and the other prefer chinese drama/songs. And somehow the one who prefers chinese is kind of a persistence person. He/She thinks that they are right and never wants to listen to other? Can we regard them as our best friend?
I guess it's a bit hard to keep up with that kind of person but if we try hard we might be able to understand them a little bit. After all if they're fun to hang out with, I don't see there's any problem being their best friend rite??

The Most Romantic City & Island Getaway

Romantic City:

Paris, France — Ah, Paris...the city of light, the city of romance. Wander along the Seine, kiss at the top of the Eiffel Tour, admire the Mona Lisa, eat Coq au Vin in a real bistro; whatever you fancy, Paris is sure to exceed your romantic desires.

Venice, Italy — It is a lover's fantasy realized: A private gondola ride for two through the hushed and twisting canals of Venezia and in the evening, a concert in an ancient church where a string quartet plays Vivaldi. Then imagine the night capped off with a tasty gelati on the walk back to your hotel. In Venice, the city's art, culture and cuisine gracefully connect for a perfectly charming honeymoon.

San Francisco, California — Often called the most European of U.S. cities, San Franciso presents visitors with a treasure trove of culture, fine dining and activities bolstered by the backdrop of a romantic waterfront setting. Couples can enjoy picnics in Golden Gate Park with breathtaking vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge, take a colorful tour of the Latin Mission District murals, or sip a cocktail in a piano bar with views of the bay.

Island Getaway:

Seychelles — This string of magnificent islands in the Indian Ocean still retains the natural splendor of silky white sands, emerald green palms and turquoise waters. The Seychelles offer honeymooners the luxury of an unforgettable, secluded paradise without worries of overcrowded beaches or beach towns.

St. Lucia — With its unspoiled beaches, lush scenery and long roster of high-quality resorts and hotels, it's no surprise this lovely Caribbean island has long been a popular honeymoon destination. The St. Lucia Tourist Board Web site even offers links and packages to meet demand and help couples create the most romantic vacations.

Capri — Can't decide between an island getaway or an European tour? On Italy's Capri Island, honeymooners will encounter the cultural flavor of bella Italia mixed with the tranquility of a romantic island. Grotto tours, historic ruins, natural arches, mountain vistas and delightful cuisine and vino add up to an exquisite and exotic getaway.

The Cab Ride

Twenty years ago, I drove a cab for a living. When I arrived at 2:30 a.m., the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window. Under these circumstances, many drivers would just honk once or twice, wait a minute, and then drive away. But, I had seen too many impoverished people who depended on taxis as their only means of transportation. Unless a situation smelled of danger, I always went to the door. This passenger might be someone who needs my assistance, I reasoned to myself.

So I walked to the door and knocked. "Just a minute", answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 80's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.

"Would you carry my bag out to the car?" she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness.

"It's nothing", I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated".

"Oh, you're such a good boy", she said.

When we got in the cab, she gave me an address, then asked, "Could you drive through downtown?"

"It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly.

"Oh, I don't mind," she said. "I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice".

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening.

"I don't have any family left," she continued. "The doctor says I don't have very long."

I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. "What route would you like me to take?" I asked.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, "I'm tired. Let's go now."

We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. "How much do I owe you?" she asked, reaching into her purse.

"Nothing," I said.

"You have to make a living," she answered.

"There are other passengers," I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly. "You gave an old woman a little moment of joy," she said. "Thank you."

I squeezed her hand, then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life. I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life. We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

Moral of the Story: PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.

Kindness after the verb "to love", "to help" is the most beautiful verb in the world.

Happy Valentine's Day

15 tried-and-true ideas for making this the most unique and funfilled Valentine's Day:

1. Designate one day this month—and every month—as Couples Day. Make an unbreakable date with your honey....
2. Playing together can rekindle passion. Try couples yoga. Take up tennis. Rent snowshoes. Go out dancing or heat things up with a salsa tape.
3. Intelligence is sexy, and learning together is a way to grow closer. Enroll in a class. Teach yourselves chess. Start a book discussion group for couples.
4. As a couple, keep one day clear each month. Don't over-schedule yourselves. Leave room for the unexpected!
5. Discover the world! Ask other couples to share their favorite ethnic cuisines, indigenous music or books on other cultures and beliefs. Try out some of their favorites on a regular basis.
6. Redecorate your home together with feng shui to invite positive energy.
7. Read the Kama Sutra or your favorite sultry literature to your partner.
8. Go for the rush! Try rock climbing, hang gliding or flying trapeze.
9. Window-shop for your dreams together. Go "house hunting" for the perfect weekend cottage...Paris flat...mountain cabin. Or, test-drive your dream car.
10. Sleep outdoors, under the stars. Naked (might be too much, but could be fun).
11. Make a list of your five favorite things to do together. Set aside time for each of them during Valentine's week.
12. Write down the names of four other couples who really know how to have fun. Schedule a "play date" with each one in the coming weeks.
13. Learn to meditate together. Even five or ten minutes a day can help. Inspire each other to keep to a meditation schedule.
14. If you were to marry your mate today, what would you say? Surprise your loved one with a new set of vows.
15. Are you new parents? Surprise each other by doing some of the chores on your partner's "least favorite chores" list.
And now a little bit of fact about Valentine's Day:

Top 10 Valentine's DON'Ts

No. 1 DON'T tell your girlfriend that this has been “one of the best” Valentine’s you’ve ever had. She won’t see that as a compliment.

No. 2 DON'T celebrate your special night by ordering tequila shots – Valentine’s is already poignant enough without inviting Jose Cuervo to the party! Angry shouting and upchucking that expensive dinner you paid for do not a romantic evening make.

No. 3 DON'T try to “avoid the rush.” There’s no such thing as a romantic 4:00 PM dinner (unless you’re over 65).

No. 4 DON'T try to slip how much you spent on her gift into the conversation. She already know the going rate for cubic zirconia, dude.

No. 5 DON'T Forget to compliment your wife or girlfriend on her Valentine’s ensemble. Compliment her dress, her hair, her shoes, her nails, her makeup, her jewelry, her fingers, her toes, her kneecaps, her kidneys, etc. Just keep complimenting.

No. 6 DON'T willingly engage in any conversation during which your wife/girlfriend addresses you by your real name. If she calls you “Honey,” or “Sweetheart,” or even “Papi,” you’re good to go. But any conversation that starts with “Michael, I need to ask you a question…” is a potential minefield.

No. 7 DON'T take your Valentine to an NC-17 movie, even if it’s foreign and/or artsy. On a night like this, the only naked body you should be admiring is hers.

No. 8 DON'T be your usual, too-cool-to-wear-nice-clothes self. No need to buy a new suit, but come on man – maybe tonight isn’t the night for your “ironic” Dukes of Hazard t-shirt.

No. 9 DON'T order tequila shots. Do you hear me? I’m not kidding about this!

No. 10 DON'T play mood music that’s sexier than you are. If you’re not 100% certain you can provide genuine “sexual healing,” leave Marvin Gaye up on the shelf. Every man’s got to know his limitations.

Don't take dis too seriously....It's juz meant as a joke k??? ^^

Valentine's Day Trivia

About three percent of pet owners give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets.

About one billion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged each year. The holiday is second only to Christmas in terms of the number of cards sent.

Alexander Graham Bell applied for his patent on the telephone, an "improvement in telegraphy," on Valentine's Day, 1876.

Fifteen percent of women in the United States send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day. ( I never knew women can be dis desperate =P)

During Victorian times, it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine's Day card.

It's Your Life

Forget diaries, scrapbooks and photo albums. We now record our lives with camera phones, digital voice recorders and the internet. Website trendwatching.com calls this new social phenomenom "life caching."
You can now document your life and comment on how you feel, then catalogue it via an online diary - a "web log," better known as a "blog." But this diary isn't stashed under the mattress for privacy. It's there on the web for all to see, complete with links to other sites the "blogger" finds interesting.
Millions of people now keep active blogs. But beware, joining them and putting your life online can become contagious - and bad for your health. New Scientist reported research showing that regular diarists were more likely to suffer headaches, digestive problems, sleeplessness, and social awkwardness.
Well...Has anybody feel the symptoms being described above yet???? =P

What Goes Around, Comes Around

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer.

One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer.

At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel. "Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of."

And that he did.

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, he graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia. What saved his life this time?

Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill.

His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.

Moral of the story: Be fair with everybody because whatever you do it is always gonna come back right at ya.

Most Expensive Mobile

Mobile phone encrusted with diamonds and covered in gold which is for sale in an online auction. The highest bid so far stands at 55 million won (US53,554 USD)

May This Encourage You, Always

Don't spend major time with minor people. If there are people in your life who continually disappoint you, break promises, stomp on your dreams, are too judgmental, have different values and don't have your back during difficult times...that is not friendship.

To have a friend, be a friend. Sometimes in life as you grow, your friends will either grow or go. Surround yourself with people who reflect values, goals interests and lifestyles.

When I think of any of my successes, I am thankful to God from whom all blessings flow, and to my family and friends who enrich my life.

Over the years my phone book has changed because I changed, for the better. At first, you think you're going to be alone, but after awhile, new people show up in your life that make it so much sweeter and easier to endure.

Remember what your elders used to say, "Birds of a feather flock together. If you're an eagle, don't hang around chickens: Chickens can't fly!"

Learning To Breathe

This song caught my attention because it got nice tunes and the lyrics is somehow true in life. Btw it's by Switchfoot. Here goes the lyrics:

Hello, good morning, how you do?
What makes your rising sun so new?
I could use a fresh beginning too
All of my regrets are nothing new
So this is the way that I say I need You
This is the way
This is the way that I'm

Learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies

Hello, good morning, how you been?
Yesterday left my head kicked in
I never, never thought that I would fall like that
Never knew that I could hurt this bad
So this is the way that I say I need You
This is the way that I say I love You
This is the way that I say I'm Yours
This is the way, this is the way

Another song dat I recommend is Eminem - Like Toy Soldier and Mockingbird. I don't usually listen to Eminem but these 2 songs is somehow different so yeah I would recommend it.....

Rain n Storm in Melbourne

Due to last nite rain and storm in Melbourne, dis is wat happened:

This is juz near where I live

Start Giving....

A beautiful, rich and perfect-living woman feels there's something missing inside her. One day, she can't live longer with the emptiness therefore she went to visit her psychiatrist and said dat she wants to be happy.

The psychiatrist brought an old cleaning lady and told the rich woman, "Mary will tell you everything how she find happiness here and I want you listen to her."

The old cleaning lady put down her broom, sat at the nearest chair and start telling her stories: "OK, my husband died of malaria, and my only child died because of an accident. I don't have anyone, I've lost everything. I can't sleep, I can't eat, I never smile at anybody, I even thought of ending my life. Until one day a kitten followed me home. Once I feel sorry for the kitten."

"The weather was cold outside, so I decided to let the kitten stay for a while. I gave her milk and she drank it, then she start showing her affection on my feet and for the first time I smiled."

"I thought for a while if helping a kitten can make me smile, maybe doing something for someone can make me happy. So the next day, I brought biscuits for my ill neighbours. Everday I try to do something helpful. To see other people happy makes me happy as well. Today, I don't know if there's anybody who can sleep or eat better than me. I've found happiness by giving."

By the time Mary finished her story, the rich woman cried. She got everything that can be bought by money but she lost something that cannot be bought by money.

Laugh of the Day

We brought our newborn son, Adam, to the pediatrician for his first checkup. As he finished, the doctor told us, "You have a cute baby." Smiling, I said, "I bet you say that to all new parents." "No," he replied, "just to those whose babies really are good-looking." "So what do you say to the others?" I asked. "He looks just like you."

Aww...Isn't this cute??

Love is.....

Love is like a butterfly. The more u chase it, the further it will fly away. But if you let it fly freely, it will come to you the least you were expecting it. Love can give u happiness and sometimes, sadness. Love is only worthy if it is given to someone who will appreciate it. So don't rush, and choose only the best.

Love isn't about being the "perfect" someone for each other. It is about finding someone who can help you to be yourself. And because of that, you are perfect.

Never say "I love you" if you don't care. Never talk about a non-existence feeling. Never get into someone's life if it only means to hurt them. Never look into their eyes if all you ever did were lies. The cruelest way you ever did to someone is to let them fall in love but never meant to catch it...

Love isn't about "This is your fault", but "I'm sorry". It's not about "Where are you?", but "I'm here". It's not about "What are you doing?", but "I understand". It's not about "If you weren't like this", but "I just love the way you are".

True compatibility is not measured by how long or how often you have been together, but it is measured by when you were together, the quality of life you created with each other.

The hardest thing is not how to deal with sadness or yearning, but it is about how to learn from them.

How to fall in love: fall but not staggering, consistent but not too pushy, sharing and be fair, be understanding and try not to take things for granted, sad but try not to keep it to yourself.

It hurts watching someone you love being with somebody else but it hurts more if the person you love can't be with you.

Love will hurt if you separated with someone, it hurts more if you were forgotten by someone you love, but the worst is when someone you love doesn't even know how you feel towards them.

The saddest thing in life is to find someone and fall in love, just to know they're not the one for you and you have spend so much time for someone who doesn't appreciate yourself. If they are not "worth it" now, they never will even in a year or 10 years. So let them go......

Preston Bailey

I sure hope my wedding will look like this one day.... =P

Seeing Red or Is That Purple?

I once read an article in a magazine saying about students who are about to start the new academic year can expect to see red less often...and more purple in the margins.
Apparently, they say that the colour purple is more "friendly" than red which seems like they "shout" at students.
And guess what?? pen makers and office supply superstores in the US has boosted production of purple pens by at least ten percent.

Some courses dat u don't even know exist:
- "Surf Science and Technology" at Perth's Edith Cowan University
- "Mafia Studies" at Italy's Rome University
- "Philosophy and Star Trek" at Georgetown University, Washington DC
- "Cultural History of Rap" at UCLA, Los Angeles
- "American Golf: Aristocratic Pastime or the People's Game?" at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh
- "Society Through Soaps" at Tameside College, UK

Well...Well...whadaya know courses like that could exist? Let's hope that they have something for Lord of the Rings =P
